Descriptions Done Right

Many people are probably already familiar with the way bat describes his new items at Ancient Vaults & Eldritch Secrets.  bat has a stable of recurring characters who use his new items in action scenes, following with game info.  For an example read this spell, which I think is pretty nifty mechanically, too.

Every once in a while you run into a method or process that works so well it subsequently seems the only right way to do something.  And yet to adopt it feels like copying something distinctive and personal, unlikely to equal the quality of the originator.   Thank you and damn you, bat.

I'll probably just plod along with my Ed Greenwood pastiche.

  1. It is nice to know that I can please and frustrate at the same time! :)

Thank you much for the kind words, they are much appreciated. My purpose is twofold: first to give to the OSR community-if there is something that you can use in a game or a post sparks an idea, then I have served my purpose. Secondly, it is a great exercise in discipline. Think of all that happens in a year, births, deaths, hospital trips, etc. I really don't like to pat myself on the back, but being able to write something daily is, at times, a Herculean effort.

  2. Consistent writing will be the key, I agree. I don't know that I will be able to do every day, but I want to have several posts a week.

I give you props on your discipline, and am glad to reap the benefits of your determination!
